James MacDonald

Castleford Choral Society – Musical Director

James MacDonald studied conducting, piano and organ at Huddersfield University before completing his postgraduate studies at the University of Leeds.

 

He has worked as a choral conductor and organist since 1995 and has held posts as Musical Director of Knaresborough Choral Society and Chorus Master of Harrogate Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

 

Until 2013 he directed the choir of Saint Wilfrid’s, Harrogate. Following a period as Education and Training Officer for the Royal School of Church Music, he was appointed Chairman of the Area Committee in the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds.

 

Following sixteen years running the music department at Crofton Academy, where he still teaches Music and French, James is currently Head of Year 7; he is also a senior examiner for GCSE Music.

He lives in Castleford with his wife, Karen, and their two young children.

Claire Burden

Accompanist

Claire became the Society’s Accompanist in 2007. She studied Music Performance at Huddersfield University, majoring in the organ. She is organist at Brotherton and Ferrybridge churches and is a private music tutor. She also accompanies Castleford Male Voice Choir.
